Leiden University

Foundation for Austrian Studies

Established in 1988, the Foundation for Austrian Studies (‘Stichting Oostenrijkse Studiën’) promotes knowledge about Austria and Central Europe in the Netherlands and stimulates academic exchange. In close cooperation with Leiden University the Foundation established a special Chair for Central European and Austrian Studies. A visiting professorship, has been in place for more than twenty-five years. Our visitors come from several disciplines (history, arthistory, literature and languages, musicology, political sciences) and from many universities. An international speakers‘ series forms part of our activities. In 2022 we welcome Prof. Peter Berger from the Vienna University of Economics and Business, who will be teaching BA and MA courses in Leiden.
