Girls in Politics

Around the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October, girls and young women (6 to 18 years) are shadowing mayors and mayoresses from all over Austria. They accompany mayoresses and mayors in their everyday work to get an insight into the diverse tasks and opportunities of local politics. The aim of the project is to make role models visible and to motivate girls and young women for local politics. At the same time, exchange and dialogue between political decision makers and young women and girls is strengthened. Girls in Politics has been implemented by the Directorate General for Women and Equality together with the Austrian Federation of Municipalities since 2022.
